You posit two things that I want no part of:
1) That we can create safeguards, overseers, councils, bodies of the people, what have you, that can at the same time, effect a common goodwill and be free of corruption, the latter only a reflection of what has been essentially human since at least Homer and the Bible. Regardless, there are times when even a common will is not enough to forestall the repercussions of previous misdeeds.
2) That we have any right to a good life. Would you ever think we would see eternal returns, on average, of 10% per annum?
I do not hold either of these to be true. In fact, I am steadfastly long that they are untrue. |
