capitalism: An economic system in which the means of production and distribution are privately or corporately owned and development is proportionate to the accumulation and reinvestment of profits gained in a free market.
socialism : Any of various theories or systems of social organization in which the means of producing and distributing goods is owned collectively or by a centralized government that often plans and controls the economy.
Socialism is for the people better welfare, Capitalism is for the corporate welfare. The two are not mutually exclusive, although differ in the way in which the people are serviced, and the needs that are addresses. Canada is based on a population level that can not substain a capitalistic society, and thus has to be based on socialistic structure. Had we 2 times the population of USA we would by nature be formed as a capatilism society. Till that time, we we remain a socialist soceity with capitalism on the sidelines. It has been uneconomical for many things in this country, such as export of grain from the prairies, to the west or east coast. That's why years ago the grain was subsidized to offset the cost of deliveries. But more effecient farming technology has offset the costs, and national deregulation of the trains has been the mandate. But there are many in-effeciencies within Canada that are being addressed on a daily basis. Canada is more effecienct then USA, and that has always been a downfall of USA. Prime examples are your steal industries, mining, loggin, fishing, water. Let's just admitt that USA can compete on a nationalistic scale. Your country is a relic. Your infrastructure is suspect. How many times do we have to read about bridges in USA being destroyed by either boats colliding with them, or just collapsing from lack of up keep. That's the legacy of your private sector. |
