Welcome to the 70's part deux.

How so? Double digit inflation? Oil prices rising many fold? Sky high interest rates? Slow growth. High unemployment?

Maybe I'm missing something, but this seems nothing like the 70s. Between 1970 and 1982 we had 4 recessions. Since then, we have had 2 - that's one every 10 years. And this latest recession was decidedly mild. It just seems violent because of the decline in the stock market from unsustainably high levels. Crikey, it wasn't too many years ago that economists were saying we'd never get unemployment below 6%. Now we're around 6% AFTER a recession has ended!

Add to the mix a world economy that is poised for growth and the economic environment is very bullish. It's very possible, IMO, that we won't have another slowdown the rest of the decade and that growth will shortly be back above 4% for the entire world.
