Yep, and without it AMD would likely be out of business.
You know that, and every time you see the term "QuantiSpeed", you scream out loud and pound on the floor (at least, you post as though that's what you do).
AMD came up with a successful response to Intel's very low performance, but high nominal clock speed, consumer fraud line of chips. Deal with it.
Amazing how well the Athlons do when measured performing almost any clearly defined, real work application, like indexing a database, evaluating mathematical functions, acting as an application server, etc. Yet Bapco's mystery meat benchmark (they were caught cheating on Sysmark 2001, so now they've made Sysmark 2002's actual operations a secret) somehow shows great results for P4.
AMD does well on almost all of the open source, independent benchmark, while Intel's Pentium 4 fraud is useful only for mystery meat benchmarks.
But if eating mystery meat is what you do all day, by all means, get a fraud chip 4. |
