<Chinese troops may be deployed to within a few hundred miles of both of our motherlands, in the middle, in fact:>

Condoleezza Rice and co declared China to be a strategic competitor, so we shouldn't be surprised when China comes up with a strategy.

The main strategy China has come up with is to make and sell me many many things. They are good quality and cheap. They also buy CDMA ASICs from me and make cellphones. It's starting to look like a virtuous spiral.

The USA has been giving NZ a hard time with steel tariffs, sheep barriers, farm subsidies and so on. We are aliens who may be arrested and incarcerated on Cuba with no habeas corpus, no human rights, no trial, nothing. So we are having to deal with China. The USA strategy seems to be decidely unfriendly. The Chinese strategy seems much more amenable to peace, light, harmony and happiness, or if not those, at least trade and prosperity.

The USA flies military aircraft right on the edge of international airspace beside China. The USA should not be surprised when China sets up shop with a knight move across and over there, coming in from the side.
