Thanks for the reply and for the numerical framework. I doubt that Micrsoft has a option_expense/salary ratio of 1.6 but that is beside the point.

Ignore for a moment the consequences. Is it not logical that when the company takes on an expense for assigning options to an employee that the employee is earning an income equal to that expense. Pardon the expression but this seems a little bit like - duh - where there is a debit there must be a credit somewhere.
