Has Intel ever addressed the employees right after the earnings report before.

At first glance this doesn't bode well. If they made numbers then no speech to the Employees would be necessary would it?
At the very worst I would expect Intel to say something like: Due to market conditions it is becoming increasingly hard to maintain the profitability of the past. Although it may be necessary to trim so jobs we at Intel will do our best to maintain the current level of Employment as long as possible. Also rest assured that we are using accepted accounting practices...

If they flat come out and say they are cutting thousands of jobs then that may be too much for the market to bare. Perhaps the markets start to see the glass as half full rather than half empty and more panic ensues...so I'm pretty sure Intel will choose it's words if they are cutting.
