Wal-Mart (WMT : NYSE : US$53.44)

Wal-Mart has said sales are rising for PCs using Lindows, a new
operating system trying to encroach on Microsoft’s (MSFT) Windows.
Wal-Mart’s Web site features a $299 PC loaded with Linux-based
Lindows, compared to a similarly equipped PC from Dell Computer (DELL)
costing $559. Wal-Mart’s pricing is setting a new standard among the
cheapest PCs, which have been selling for about $500 to $600.
According to Microsoft, the Lindows name confuses consumers and
infringes the Windows trademark. Earlier this year, a federal judge
ruled that Lindows could keep its name for now.
