Hamas has again proven their skill as fighters. I believe they are angry at the continued Israeli oppression that has allowed Chairman Arafat to pilfer the funds that are supposed to be for the Palestinian people.
I would say to Hamas, what would you have America do? We have been told not to meddle in internal Palestinian politics, yet Chairman Arafat will not attempt to unite the fighters, and do what is required for the formation of the country of Palestine.
It is my opinion that the Arab League proposal is reasonable, and demonstrates that they are truly peacemakers.
However, I say how can there be a Palestinian nation while there is still a war being conducted? And because the war is still being conducted, how can the Israeli’s relax their grip, when the Palestinian fighters would surely strike many powerful blows?
Is Chairman Arafat being weak and cowardly on purpose, so that he can continue to pilfer the funds meant for the Palestinian people?
I argue, that if the Hamas fighters are ready for peace, and Chairman Arafat will not organize a “summit” of Palestinian fighters, I say Hamas should organize the “summit” with the help of Hezbollah and Islamic Jihad etc.
If Hamas releases a public statement that Hamas desires to consult with the other groups of fighters in order to discuss a cease-fire, I would argue that America should apply pressure to the Israeli’s to allow the safe conduct for the militant leaders to the meeting place of their choice. If an agreement for a cease fire reached at the “summit” of fighters, then the fighters will be able to dictate to Chairman Arafat what is required.
The first step in ending a war, is the cease fire.
IMO, the most honorable way to form a nation, is the way that the 13 United Colonies formed America, after the fighting had stopped. This is what I wish for the Palestinian people.
