When we start defining a "tradition" which is not inclusive of the wishes and beliefs of relative newcomers to our country, I think we end up losing the American tradition that matters the most to me.

Surely you do not wish us to take that literally, OMD. No doubt among our newer immigrants, there is a smattering of Neo-Nazis. We are deporting some immigrants who have been here for many years and who have been discovered to have been participants in the Holocaust.

If you were emigrating, say, to Australia -- would you expect them to adapt to your traditions, or would you intend to adapt to theirs? Would you insist that they adapt to yours?
