db,

"What does this mean? Damned if I know." Exactly. Which is why I'm able to sleep tonight back in cash. If I miss out on addl. gains, so be it. Today the only thing I missed out on is losing a chunk of profits had I not set tight stops.

The thing is, there appears to be more and more people with itchy trigger fingers doing ST plays off oversold conditions who are taking quick profits (or trying to)--like me--which means lots of see sawing about trend lines. And the see saw amplitudes will get smaller and their characteristic frequencies shorter as traders try to anticipate and beat the other guy getting in and getting out (increasing chaos). Until volatility and vol. goes back down, because at some point randomness outweighs predictability, and the high probability wins are no longer there.

In my opinion, it will take some massive catalyst to cause all the $$$ sitting on the sidelines to come back into the market on a sustainable basis and change the trend from downward to upward. Who knows how long that will be? In the mean time, there will always be another day and opportunity for another play. So back to waiting and watching.
