If your computers are only ten feet apart, I'd go for a wired network. Wireless costs more. At the short distance you mention wireless would work fine, but why bother? A Linksys or DLink wired router will cost you under $100.

Once you have a router you can connect your second computer in yourself and save the extra $7 each month. The cable co cannot tell how many computers are on your router.
