**first of all nowhere was the zone diet mentioned.**
not by name. but the guy mentioned he added in moderate levels of fruits and vegetables and this VERY CLOSE to the zone diet.
**you are simply speculating that it is a zone favorable diet.**
based on the description, that speculation is quite reasonable.
**second of all, like the article mentioned, people are so brainwashed with the common dogma of low-fat, that they just can't jump wholeheartedly onto the low-carb bandwagon.**
who are you talking to here? not me and i haven't heard anybody else dispute low fat/high carb diets are great...
**that is the appeal of the zone diet. he makes it sound not too radical so that it doesn't offend the knee-jerk feelings that creep up in the back of one's mind which says, "eating all this fat and meat can't be good for me."**
first, atkins is MUCH more popular than the zone.
second, moderation isn't the appeal for me. it is a moderate diet by all means and won't appeal to extreme folks who really value the value of just being extreme. the appeal for me is that it is the most optimal diet i know of. it just happens to be moderate.
**that in no way means that atkins way is not the best way.**
no, the data shows that atkins doesn't support peak athletic performance - and in this view, the data is crystal clear.
**it just means that most people have been taught to believe such deluded, dietary dogma that it will take a while for people to unlearn their prejuidices.**
actually, peak athletes could care less about anyhting except winning. IF atkins provided an edge, they be all over it like white on rice the way many athletes are on the zone. they aren't b/c it doesn't. those are the facts. don't shoot the messenger.
**gee, i don't recall dr atkins ever suggesting in any of his books that i have read that one should go even one day without eating. so give it a rest with this 'starve' stuff.**
i used the term in your article. if you don't like it, post another article next time... ;-)
**you have it backwards. the zone is not the optimal diet.**
the data has it straight. many, many athletes have used the zone to improve their peak performance. atkins has a GOOSE EGG. just bad luck? yeah, right! you can argue against facts all you want - you look silly.
**the only reason it is somewhat popular is because unlike atkins who tells you the truth about the way you should eat, dr dears tells you that you can eat practically anything on his diet, just as long as you don't eat too much of certain restricted foods.**
actually, that is a terrible description of the zone diet. go do some homework to get it right.
**he is not in the business of telling people the proper way to eat, he is in the business of trying to make his diet most palatable to the widest amount of people so he can sell more books.**
actually, his diet helps folks win gold medals. has the atknins diet helped anybody even become an olympian, let alone show they ARE THE BEST IN THE WORLD? DOH!
**you don't know that.**
i do. ii think you do, too, hence no data to show me wrong (hint 'cause i'm right!). -lol-
**except for a few minor differences, the zone can actually be a copycat of aspects of the atkins plan.**
i thought those differences were HUGE and designed to hide the truth of eating to get adherents? please keep your story straight.
**people have this notion that under atkins you can never eat more than a certain minimal amount of carbs. dr atkins even says in his book that athletes can up their intakes of carbs because they will be exercising strenuously and burning them off.**
no gold medal winners ever followed his diet, right? ha ha!
**after you reach your goal weight atkins advises that you can slowly introduce as many carbs (preferrably healthier carbs) into your diet as need be, as long as you feel well and are not putting on weight. so an athlete who exercises strenuously will be able to ingest more carbs and not put on weight. depending on how insulin resistant one is, it just may happen that some athletes on atkins end up eating 40/30/30.**
]and only those 40/30/30 are winning gold medals! ha ha ha... from your definition, sounds like atkins owns all diets...
**it's a real shame that you constantly refer to this lame argument that atkins is not optimum for high performance athletes.**
it's a shame b/c the data exposes atkins diet. many more adherents, much less athletic success. that's a fact.
**seeing how the atkins plan is easily tailored to everyone's needs,**
yes, atkins now wants credit for the zone - the diet you said was watered down "truth." i guess he has to get medals somehow. -lol-
**the atkins diet is far superior to the zone, which maintain strict portion and macronutrient ratios (40/30/30). the zone diet is inflexible, atkins is not.**
the zone is flexible. different folks can manipulate the ratios for what works for them. again, more ignorance.
you can say atkins is superior. the zoners will hit you on head with gold medals! you would, but you can't - no gold medals to swing! -lol-
**this is the last time i'm going to explain this to you. if you can't get it this time, then there is just no hope for you.**
i understand your point clearly. it is just wrong.
**the atkins way of eating was never specifically targeted for athletes the way the zone is. even so, the atkins program is flexible enough that it can easily fill the needs of the performance athlete.**
but it hasn't. the atkins diet is what - 30 years old? IF the atkins diet gave optimal reuslts, athletes would seek it out - just like they do the zone. they just want to win and will get on train and ride it victory. atkins just isn't the victory train.
**the reason you do not hear athletes coming out to endorse the atkins plan is because the atkins diet was targeted for the millions of americans who suffer from obesity and chronic ailments.**
athletes aren't as dumb as you suggest. IF atkins worked, they woulda found it in 30 years.
**people associate the atkins diet with being overweight and suffering from chronic ailments. atkins didn't seek out a bunch of athletes so he could use them for endorsements.**
and athletes didn't seek out the atkins diet. that is MY POINT.
**barry sears specifically took his diet to some athletes and said try it out.**
and won gold medals.
**then he secured some high profile endorsements so he could sell a lot of books.**
and more people competed at the top level on the zone. you'd get real old waiting for an "atkins diet pro athlete" - does one even exist??? - against a zoner... i'm waiting, but 30 years is loud science...
**there would be no reason for a high performance athlete to ever pick up an atkins book because a performance athlete is likely already in good health and not suffering from any major ailments.**
you don't know athletes. they are always investigating diets to achieve better performance. your 30 year denial of athletes being aware of low carb diets is just a joke - but a necessary joke to keep your paradigm afloat...
**so the only way you would get endorsements from celberity athletes is if atkins was to seek them out, like sears did. atkins doesn't want to waste time seeking out athletes, he wants to cure sick people.**
and athletes won't waste their time seeking out atkins. PRECISELY my point.
**the only thing is, 98% of americans are NOT high performance athletes!**
agreed, but that population does a lot to describe aan optimal diet for everyone else.
**most americans ARE obese, lazy, and suffer from various chronic ailments related to diet. atkins has rightfully dedicated his life's work to trying to help the greatest number of people who suffer dietary related ailments. he has changed the dietary landscape and helped millions of people become healthier and has cured many instances of heart disease.**
yes, atkins was a pioneer. he did have new ideas, some of which were pretty revolutionary. he deserves the credit he got in the aricle and the *establishment* deserves the crow they are being fed.
**then you have dr sears, a poor imitation who came along after atkins and runs around bragging about how many athletes supposedly master the "zone".**
your gold medal envy is showing. size and quantity does matter! :-) i wouldn't be surprised if sears knew of atkins and tweaked it for IMPROVED PERFORMANCE.
the bottom line is if your body needs x grams of protein, it doesn't make sense to eat 1.4 x grams of protein as atkins suggests. protein gluttony is not something i support. |
