...when I told him Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy weren't real. Why did you tell him? I'd have hated it if my parents had told me that. Are you sure he appreciated it? I let my kids make that discovery for themselves ... and I guess to this day I don't know for sure when -- or whether -- they did. I think life is enriched from having a little magic in it. Especially when you are a kid. Enough seriousness awaits you in adulthood. Bet you didn't let him read the OZ books. (Note: I don't like personalizing these kinds of discussion too much, and I am not intending to offend you. Just remember, you brought it up).
