I told my children because other children are ten times more cruel than most adults would be "explaining" something. I don't happen to believe in Santa and the Easter bunny myself, so it would also be hypocritical if I out and out lied to my children about them, when asked seriously. IMO. My children were happy to he answered honestly. I suspect no matter what you tell children, as long as you tell it to them honestly, they are likely to thank you for it. I know of no way to test that out, but I suspect it might be true. And even if it isn't, it appeals to me, because it is the way I would want to be treated. I hate being lied to.
