Reinstate the Glass-Steagull Act of 1933. Give the banks a period of time to sell or spin off their brokerage and insurance operations. Banks shouldn't be in the stock brokerage or insurance business in the first place.

The stock brokerage business is full of temptation. The article did a good job explaining that.

The insurance business is full of risk. An insurance company going broke due to a hurricane is an acceptable stock holder risk. A bank going broke due to a hurricane is not an acceptable bank depositor risk.

Bankers really don't understand the stock brokerage or insurance business. They understand selling financial services for a fee. They think all financial services do the same thing.
