CGB, I have been involved in and carefully followed the slavery argument. IMO, at no point did JFQ assert this, although he did play devil's advocate a bit in the discussion. I never saw him defend or justify slavery or use Jefferson in support of such a defense.

I do agree, however, that it is often relevant who is funding a study because it may have implications regarding how stats are manipulated. Unfortunately the sciences of interpretation are never fully objective simply because the human beings employing them are not.
