Vodafone to order camera-phones from Japan

REUTERS [ WEDNESDAY, JULY 17, 2002 10:26:22 AM ]

TOKYO: J-Phone Corp., Japan's third-largest wireless carrier, said on Wednesday British wireless carrier Vodafone Group would order most handsets for its camera-phone service from Japanese makers.

The move would give a boost to Japanese handset manufacturers facing slowing growth in the domestic market.

"The order would be historic in size," said J-Phone President Darryl Green, speaking at an industry seminar.

He did not identify specific handset makers.

J-Phone is operated by Japan Telecom and its parent Vodafone Group.
