Lucent Technologies Selected by Telekomunikacja Polska as the Supplier of DSL Broadband Access Systems
WARSAW, Poland--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 17, 2002--Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU - News) has signed a frame agreement with Telekomunikacja Polska for delivery and installation of DSL broadband systems in TP's network.

The agreement is valid for one year and the purchase orders signed so far call for 10,5 million euros.

According to the agreement Lucent will deliver solutions from its Stinger(r) DSL Access Concentrator family which will be installed nationwide and used by TP in its Neostrada service offering for business and residential customers. Several thousand of Stinger ports have already been delivered and installed and the service has been available to first subscribers in Warsaw and Poznan as of June.

"We are delighted to continue our long-term co-operation with Telekomunikacja Polska and help them in growing and upgrading their network", said Andrzej Dulka, Lucent Technologies INS Sales Director for Poland. "We do hope this agreement will help TP to become the preferred supplier of the internet services and to strengthen their position as the leader of the Polish telecom market."

The Stinger(r) DSL Access Concentrator Family offers carrier-class DSL access that is tailored to the customer's needs. All Stinger Products offer customers high-capacity traffic aggregation capabilities and robust, always-on performance for forward-looking carriers and service providers. The Stinger(r) FS/FS+, LS, RT and MRT all incorporate future-proof ATM-based architectures-built for scalability and throughput, while avoiding the restrictions imposed by other proprietary designs.

This robust, high-speed ATM fabric is extremely flexible, with a modular design that simplifies expansion and upgrade to newer xDSL technologies and software features. The Stinger(r) MRT (Micro-Remote Terminal), the so called' pizza box' Stinger, delivers DSL services to the most remote and underserved communities. It is an ideal solution for space-constrained applications, such as remote terminals or multi-tenant units.

"Rapid project execution this year will speed up the introduction of broadband services".

Broadband services provide fixed and very fast Internet access to business and residential customers. They allow users to transfer large amounts of information, use multimedia in the net, administer e-mail and create their own web pages, as well as enables other IP-based services. TP is planning to have 35.000 ADSL lines in service in 2002, and 400.000 - by the end of 2004.
