Yes indeed.

I've turned this issue over in my mind many times and that conclusion just outweighs all other considerations.

Sam has watched Louis' sleight-of-hand activity for many years and has either become enamoured of it or disgusted with it. Given his background, I expect the former won out. And as you point out, the future costs of NOT dumping the past misbehaviour on Gerstner, could be very nasty.
