Gary, Re: "Your provocative numbers would suggest AMD will lose $200 million next quarter...would you hazard a guess how much longer it can last"

If you believe that AMD's break even point has been reduced to below $900M, then the losses would be closer to $180M, less the 40% provision to income tax that they plan to get. So really, we are looking at a possible $108M loss for Q3. Given AMD's cash position, they could last for quite some time like this. I would guess that conditions will improve before AMD is likely to run out of money at their current burn rate. Hector Ruiz said that current conditions were like the "Perfect Storm" for AMD to have the worst possible kind of quarter, and I agree. Conditions are simply that bad. But I believe that even seasonal improvement is an improvement, and next quarter, I expect the losses to be less. Hard to say when AMD will break even, since it all depends on Hammer, but I think that things are looking more likely by Q3 2003. Things may not be like Y2K then, but I am more confident that AMD will see profitability by then, unless Hammer is a flop.
