The original number of wives allowed was 10.

Then Mohammed reduced that number to 4 apparently because the demands and/or nagging from 4 wives was just about managable for a Muslim who prays 5 times a day. Perhaps that number is just about managable.

BTW, each of the wives does her best to please her man because it is only too easy for him to divorce her if she displeases him. A Muslim wife therefore submits herself 100% to her man!

I have friends who became Muslims not because they believe in Islam but because of the 4-wives privilege and because Muslim women have been trained since very young to be submissive.
