Seems old components became really cheap due to increased competition, old inventories while new
generation components obviously are designed to be more cost-efficient.

It is worth while to open up a 6310 (as a reference, kiddyphones evven better) and have a look at how few
external components there is left. In most cases just a resistor plus cap when going from one
chip or block to another.

Also the new generation of the direct demodulation/modulation chipset family (900/1800/1900), new generation
of RF filters,etc,etc,etc.

I would also not be surprised if the cost of the display modul(s) have gone down.
