Jon,

The main reason why Nextel posted a profit is b/c they retired a good portion of their debt. Instead of paying down that debt with cash, Nextel issued additional stock.

Therefore, while Nextel did reduce their interest expense and total amount of debt outstanding, the common shareholder was diluted.

That, in no way, tells any investor that the "business model" is working.
