From what I've read that is a capability associated with the CCD imager.

I'm no scientist, but that's what I've read as well. It's over my head, but I like the results. (g)

Here are some other details on Sony's focusing:

"The F707 features high-speed scan autofocus and a new "hologram" focusing assist device to insure properly focused pictures no matter what the light levels are. This new autofocus system uses a Class 1 laser to paint a grid pattern on the subject and is perfectly safe, even when aimed direclty at someone's eyes. I found it nearly impossible to "fool" the AF, the only out of focus pictures I ever got were when I was using the manual focus mode."

Yes, I'm leaning toward the Sony, but not ready to buy this version. I'd like to see an even wider zoom on it, though the f/2 maximum aperture is dynamite as is. Of course less of a shutter lag is a must, and better burst shooting capability would not hurt.

I am a strong believer in introducing myself to camera manufacturers and letting them know what I need. I contacted Sony with my thoughts, and was shocked to get a personal reply. That was a first! Yes indeed, Sony is a tough competitor, one other camera manufacturers better watch very closely!
