He stated it a way to imply that 40% of the people in the Apple stores don't own an Mac and of course were shopping for a MAC, vs just looking at what Apple has to sell and already own a computer. A.K.A. Window Shopping!

that is all that Apple was saying, that 40% window shoppers are new to the mac...

if you look at other figures from apple, (not just the stores), you will notice that about 15% of actual purchasers of the mac are wintel converts, and about 25% of actual purchasers of the mac are new to computing, which kind of also confirms the Store numbers of 40% window shoppers are new to the mac also.......

then you have that WSJ poll which also confirm these numbers...

pretty soon, if it quacks like a duck..........

you seem to be under the impression that apple is losing market share, they are not, not even in education..... their unit sales were down 2% from last year, while two research firms showed total pc sales were down double that......

so apple is capturing new users...... the economy is in the dumpster, but apple's philosophy is working....... they can't do much about the economy.... and their earnings wont turn till it does... but you should really be keeping an eye on an inexpensive stock when that happens.... (if it is still down at these levels by then)....
