I have been concerned, also, about the seemingly unsustainable growth in home prices, though I am far less concerned with debt levels. While the Roach analysis is here id excellent, I wonder if he or anyone anticipates that these pressures will be dealt with the old fashioned way: through inflation.

If I said that 10 years ago, it would have been absurd. But we have since had a small taste of that more dangerous phenomenon, deflation. I think a 5-7% inflation for the next 5 years would actually do a lot to help reduce many of the problems Roach outlines so well. The best way to get there? Massive tax cuts on capital formation-since that would also guarantee the economic strength to absorb the excess inflation that usually follows the necessary inflation.

As for deflation? We don't want to go there. It's unclear what the cure really is...
