mike - My somewhat delayed response - I don't have a problem with the motivation that gave rise to the striking of the original Working Committee, i.e. the investigation into structural or mechanical flaws in the system to prevent 1987-style crashes.

However, I do have a problem with the notion that such a legitimate purpose may have since morphed into activity more designed to try to stickhandle the markets. I admit to not having any evidence of this, it's only my tape-watching opinion.

WTFDIK, maybe it's just AJC or idiots like her buying all those Spoos on the big dips. But here's where the disconnect is for me - the PPT had better exist, or somebody is out there playing WS Russian roulette.

Here's my train of thought: Whoever it is that keeps stepping in there on a just-in-time basis must have a lot of capital behind them, which limits the possibilities of who it could be.

By definition, those big buyers must also fall into one of the following categories, either (a) deftly clever at quickly reeling their buys all back out at a profit afterward, or (b) they must be taking a real trading bath here on the way down.

If (a), do players like Calpers roll dice in the Spoo pits with their pensioner's money on this scale? Pretty scary if they do.

If (b), and if our player isn't the bottomless pit Treasury, there's going to be one helluva big shoe dropping on the market one day when whoever it is goes bust.

JMHO, I'm a paranoid conspiracist
