re:"It is hard to say that the region would be better or worse if we did not support, blindly, Isra-El and it's establishment"
First of all, I reject the idea that the United States "blindly supports Israel". What you don't seem to understand, is that America has weighed the pros and cons, and decided to side with Israel over staying neutral. The determination of American leaders, is that the Region (for that matter the world) is a safer place...with Israel having relatively secure borders. The proof of this, is that Republican as well as Democratic Administrations have sided with Israel. Further, Republican and Democratic support has not wavered; even with the loss of a rather large degree National economic security.
To argue that Republicans support Israel merely because of the "Jewish Lobby" or pressure is IMO fantasy. Just how much support do you think Republicans get from "Jewish Lobbies" in the first place? The truth is that jews as individuals, and organizations overwhelmingly support the Democratic Party. Richard Nixon did more for Israel than any other President (Republican or Democrat). Did Nixon catch a break from CBS, the New York Times, or the Washington Post? The fact is, Nixon never got even 40% of the jewish vote. |
