think I disagree with some of that, if I understand him right. I like the zen guy's point of view, you never know what may end up working or having meaning, for you or others.

Hmmm. I don't know how you're reading it, but I don't see why your statement and his are mutually exclusive.

I think Strand's statement is about the motive, not the result.

"...you will WANT to photograph that meaningness."

Don't think that takes chance out of it, and leaves plenty of room for error, audience participation, or not.
