If you constrain yourself to your own tribe, you're unnecessarily reducing your options, IMO. I think that's dumb. I've dated outside my religion, nationality, and race. It's the individual compatibility that matters.

I don't know if this applies to race but I doubt you would encourage someone who was tryingto set you up with a religious fundamentalist. Now true that would be based on a perception of individual compatibility, but there are fundamentalists who don't push their religious ideas on others. Would your refusal to consider dating the religious fundamentalist without giving him a chance first amount to religious bigotry? I would say no (if you wouldn't refuse then just make it less personal and imagine someone else with a similar dislike of religious fundamentalism refusing, I'm not trying to make this about you, just trying to find an example).

If I don't seek out black women for dates would that make me a racist? Would it matter what my motivation was or would it be racist no matter what the reason? If I then had a great relationship with a black woman and after it was over went out of my way to meet and date other black women, prefering them to whites or asians would that be racist as well? What would it mean if I wasn't attacted to red heads and refused to go out with one? Would I be bigoted against red heads? I see your point about limiting options having a negative effect, but I'm just saying that negative effect or not I wouldn't call it bigotry.
