The following is an excerpt from a CBS Marketwatch article tonight.

cbs.marketwatch.com;

<<On Wednesday, chip equipment trade group Semiconductor Equipment & Materials International said its members expects sales to decline 19 percent this year from the $28 billion sold last year. In December, SEMI's members predicted sales would only decline 3 percent in 2002.

"Given the severity of business conditions in the overall economy and especially the information technology sector, it comes as no surprise that the consensus forecast shows another drop in the worldwide market for capital equipment in 2002," said SEMI CEO Stanley Myers.>>

In a nutshell, the above probably explains most of the poor performance in the chip equipment group the last couple of days.

Tomorrow, if SEMI is on schedule, the BtB numbers for June will be released around 6:00pm.
