Alan - Vans has been on a rough ride over the course of the last year because of ill timed false rumors and various other circumstances outside the company (lack of interest in small caps etc) - If you track the financial performance of the company over the last two years since new mgmt took over it has been spectacular. 8 consecutive qtrs of beating the street and top line revenue growth of 30% + . Recently though the stock has been performing great even moving up despite Nike Fila and Reebok warnings and other news items on retailers gadzooks ... Todays downgrade by the H&Q analyst was a macro call on the industry as a whole. The market Vans sells to is completely different than Nikes etc. but the analyst chose to make a spineless downgrade. I cannot tell you what other analysts will do but certainly there is a pack mentality out there. I can tell you that I am confident they will hit their number. I received a letter from the chairman two months ago and he said their international sales were ahead of expected numbers and remember that in the most recent qtr those numbers were up 40%. Certainly I will be anxious to hear about future orders but as far as i am concerned this qtr is in the bag. But then again I have owned this stock for two years thinking it deserved at least a $25 value and it has not hit that level yet.
