CHESAPEAKE GOLD CORP - Begins Trading on the TSX Venture Exchange

Toronto, Ontario, Jul 19, 2002 (Market News Publishing via COMTEX) -- Chesapeake Gold Corp. announces that the final listing approval for its common shares on, the TSX Venture Exchange has been received and trading will commence July 19, 2002 under the symbol CKG. Pursuant to the recent completion of the arrangement with Glamis Gold Ltd., shareholders on record of Francisco Gold Corp., as of July 16, 2002 received, amongst other things, 1.55 shares of Glamis and 1 share of Chesapeake Gold Corp, for each share of Francisco held.

Chesapeake is a precious metals exploration company focused on Central America. Chesapeake's operations are headed by Francisco's former management and exploration team. Within 6 years Francisco discovered two world-class gold deposits, El Sauzal and Marlin, in Mexico and Guatemala. Chesapeake is currently exploring several large epithermal gold systems in Nicaragua and Mexico. During the past few months, Chesapeake has identified, through grass roots exploration, new bulk tonnage gold targets within district wide settings. The Company's objective is to advance at least two significant prospects to the drill ready stage within 6-8 months.

Chesapeake is well-funded with over $25 million in working capital. Presently, the Company has 16,673,425 shares issued. Chesapeake has acquired and/or applications pending, for 21 mineral claims covering 685,000 hectares in Nicaragua. In addition, the Company is negotiating the acquisition of two gold prospects in northwest Mexico. Chesapeake's 2002 exploration budget is $1.0 million.
