Except that it costs you something to grow those bananas, to take them to market, to sell them. Options cost zero when they are introduced, they are just a possible future expense.

there is also something to be said about who is doleing out the cash to grow the bananas.... (get it.... doleing).....

in the case of the ESO's...... existing shareholders have to pay for this growing.... if MSFT paid in cash, then MSFT's bank account pays for it.....

you might say, hey, that is my bank account too.... well.... technically, lets say it is, (even though you can be forced to never see any of that cash, and so far MSFT hasn't shown you any, and they've made statements that there is no way in H*LL you are ever going to see any too).... not that its all that much money per share anyway....

but lets say it is..... if MSFT paid in cash, then you get to see how much you paid..... and what this has bought you......

with ESO's you never get to see this, until much later when they slip you the bill....... you should see the contract too..... not just the bill after the fact....
