A couple of thoughts. First, Lucent is continuing to shed another pile of employee's (me included)to the toon of 15,000 more by end of September.

This will be able to support a better bottom line for the company, and more importantly, to meet the bonus guidelines for Lucent's management.

Second, there are some wins that are on the horizon that will support the focused efforts on their major customers. While these contracts may look large, the complexities of the agreements make revenue recognition very tricky. Just wait and see when they announce their 3Qtr revenues.

Finally, Lucent has done a good job of cleaning up cost overruns, and excessive spending.

I believe that this company will survive, however not with the current inner circle management. As many companies are being scrutinized lately, the entire management group need to get a once over, from senior officers to the middle management.

My opinion is that many of these folks could get hit by a bus and there wouldn't be a hiccup due to the credible people of the customer teams.
