Yep, I'm short since 55 on that one. They are an STZ, IMO (and of course, when they DO go to zero, that'll create total chaos in the corporate and muni bond markets never before seen). The leverage they now wield makes LTCM look like pikers. The author correctly points out that the notional value of their credit guarantees vastly exceeds their equity and resources. They are, if not the beating heart of the credit bubble (I hold that distinction for FNM), then perhaps they are its cirrhotic liver, attempting to filter out all the toxic sludge in the credit system. Sadly, the patient in an alcoholic, hooked on easy credit, so it's to no avail...
