Nothing has changed in my system tray. Windows resource meter shows I have 60% resources available which should be adequate, but Norton System Tools shows I only have 24% available. I become less enamored with Norton every day.

The Norton Anti Virus program has really screwed up my XP computer to the point I had to do a restore.

Think I'll play with the background running programs a bit and see if it helps, but I do suspect my Word program is corrupt.
