Not quite sure how we got on this tangent (Roebear posted European index quotes, and said "and the Euro's going up?")

Here's the point: If you're holding Euro's....gold has done better than "cash". If you're holding Dollars....gold has done better than "cash". If you consider gold a currency...then it's outperformed the Euro, the Dollar, Yen, almost everything over the last couple of years.
The Euro is going up only because although their economy is weak, our economy is weaker, and also because the ECB has been a bit more diligent about watching money supply.

The gold example was to illustrate that both currencies are "weak" compared with another "currency", ie, gold. So the Euro is winning the race between the amputee and the paraplegic...
