If you want to turn off certain programs so they don't start click on start, then run, then type in "msconfig", and then click ok. It'll give you everything you need including "startup" where you can turn off programs so they don't start. You can really screw up your computer here if you're not careful. It would be good to write down what you do so you can undo it later if it's wrong. And don't turn off anything you're not sure about because you may need it!
