ZEIT: Terms like left and right have become quite outmoded. Gerhard Schroeder knows only the modern and the un-modern, no more left or right economic policy.

Fischer: The old division of labour between the left and the right, according to which the right takes care of making money and the left of distributing it, does not function anymore today. I see it exactly the same way as Gerhard Schroeder. That does not mean, however, that the questions of the social justice have become less urgent, just the opposite. The political left must fight for justice in chances and distribution, for justice between generations, for reconciliation between immigrants and inhabitants. On the global level the justice gap is still much larger than inland.
