After two attempts by Israel's neighbors (1948 and 1967) to destroy her via attacks from Gaza and the West Bank, most of the international community acknowledged Israel's right to defensible borders.

Israel has no military or historical reason to give that land up under any circumstances, but have several times offered to do so in exchange for having their neighbors simply leave them alone. There is no shame for Israel in trying to protect it's citizens from genocide.
