crusty,

I've looked at the following several times, in particular the 9/11/01 area.

stockcharts.com

For those that don't know, put your mouse on the left arrow, and scroll back. Get the 9/11/01 area in the middle of the screen, for best visuals. Gains (losses) from 9/11/01 forward are by relative changes.

Things probably won't repeat exactly. Golds and silvers should have more strength at this juncture than they did at the 9/11/01 time frame. But there could be some similarities and we may be nearing a local market bottom.

I'm about where I want to be risk/reward wise. Out of shorts now, 15% golds, 15% tech, and 70 % cash (plus a little garbage I may have to clean up one of these days). I'm ready to swing either way and the only other thing that interests me long besides gold or tech are maybe some gassers.

FWIW I'm not (yet) interested in biotech at all. The books in that industry could get put under the microscope for quite some time imho.
