Has anyone thought about the impact of middleware such as IBM's and BEA's on the profitability of SW companies such as SEBL, SAP, ORCL...?

There hsan't been much of a discussion, but it has been mentioned that the application server space could wrest architectural control away from all applications vendors. If that happens, surely their margins would shrink considerably.
