I would be very surprised if QDEL continues to use the technology disputed by BDX for more than a few years. The smart thing to do would be to engineer the licensed technology out of their products whenever possible. The obvious question is how hard this is to do. The other alternative is to gradually shift their product mix away from those products that used BDX technology to those that use proprietary technology. Based on comments from management, this is what they intend to do at least over the short term.
