this shows the fault line between the true neocons and some other kinds of conservatives (as yet unidentified by a handy moniker), exemplified perhaps by Rumsfeld and Cheney, who favor aggressive international action in defense of traditional US national interests but are not interested in pursuing any broader ideological mission.
