1. Seasonality we have had a declining market for more than 2.5 years and the seasonality excuse historically has exceptions. Could this be one?
2. Technical. technicals imo tend to be rear view mirror stuff. For every TA guy who says technicals broke down, another sayt this is the bottom.
3. Sept Q is first Q that CEO's have to personally sign off on financial statements. i believe this is a positive for the markets even if earnings get restated. As a company is cleared by ceo signing off-- the possible lower numbers will be offset by a return of confidence at first by institutional investors. Then the shorts cover.
4. Economic outlook will worsen as consumer spending no longer props up economy. Housing bubble begins to deflate.
dont buy that--mortgages will move into the high fives and consumers will continue to spend and any decline will be offset by government spending in the fourth quarter on new technology, leading to increase in employment and so on
5. In tech land realization that there is no second half recovery and poor visibility for 03. End demand does not support turnaround. Realization that this up cycle in tech will not have growth rate of previous cycles. 03 will be better than you think.>/b>
6. Probability of exogenous shock such as terrorist attacks or Mideast war or no terrorism and a quick end to sadaam and binladens head on a stick--could happen that way too
