Older trees need it around the drip line. We have a newer tree so it needs it around the base.

Get some 5 gallon buckets and go to a stable. Fill them with horse apples. No, they won't charge you, horse shit isn't listed on the commodities board. Let the flies have at it until September then add water until the bucket is full. Stir a bit and add under your trees' drip line. Next spring you'll be amazed at the growth.
