J.t. with all due respect I graduated in the top 1% of all American history students out of High school. I also never recieved a grade lower then b+ on anypaper test in any class in college that had to do with Government or History. I have studied the Cuban missile crises adnauseaum. The fact is at the time the superiority in the numbers of war heads by the USA was so vast that the Russians had no choice but to withdrawl. Obviously this was only known many years later. The fact still remains that the Russians knew the couldnt win. Al-Qeada doesnt want to win they want to destroy. In a way its like the Romans who could conquer nations like Greece but were unable to defeat bands of Barbarians whom had no homes to destroy or fields to plunder. This much like terrorists who have nothing to destroy. The Cuban Missile crisis was a very serious time, and did almost lead to the brink, however the implications and situation are much graver now. IMHO
