...the Israelis are not feeling too safe at the moment.

Hopefully the world such as the UN will be able to fully empathize with that and be able to establish a buffer zone. Yes indeed there is a psychotic culture which has gained ground in the last 7 to 10 years or so. From what I hear from my friends in the Arabic and Asian world, there is turmoil within the Muslim world especially the Arabic Muslims. It is not as if all the Muslims and the Arabic Muslims in particular are speaking in a single voice about beating up non-Muslims, terror etc. etc.. I am sure that the moderate and saner voices amongst them will prevail. And to help the moderate ones, we need to refrain from such acts as territorial aggression, denigrating the religion etc. I am sure the US realizes that, Powell in particular. I think Goldsnow also raised a relevant issue about the Middle East Christians being beaten up politically along with the Jews.

By the way, seeing your ardent support for the Jewish cause and having the background in the State of Israel history, I am curious about your take on Shimon Peres's current efforts to talk to the Palestenian leadership, Saeb Erakat in particular. I know that Erakat has to toe the line of Arafat and hence comes across the way he is when he is on the talk show circuit. But I think he has the potential to be a true leader and partner of Israel if he should be put in Arafat's spot. I am not so sure about Hannan Ashrawi though.
